What are the different types of elections?

Hi, I was just wondering what the difference is between different types of elections and different constituancy boundaries. I was just browsing the internet and found something about Local Elections, General Elections and Westminister constituencies and scottish parliament consituencies. Do you get different elections for Scotland and the whole of UK or something? I also found the European Parliament election. Which one is it that decides the basic MPs and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and what are all these other things? Also, how often is this held? Please provide an answer to all these questions in detail. I will choose the best answer soon. Thanks very very much.
